Mexico City
Hometown:
Surry, Maine
About Me:

Margot Lee Shetterly and I egged on one another´s inner entrepreneur-editor-writer until we drove to Mexico in 2005 to start Inside México and insidemex.com.

The Caribbean and Mexico captured my imagination as a boy, growing up in rural Maine. I hate to miss a Maine summer, but have enjoyed work and adventure in Costa Rica, Cuba and Mexico, as well as New York and Miami. In 2007, Algonquin published my first book, The Americano: Fighting with Castro for Cuba´s Freedom. It tells the true story of a young man from Toledo, Ohio -- William Morgan -- who became one of two, non-Cuban comandantes in the Cuban rebel army. The other was Che Guevara.

Interests:

Baseball, fly-fishing, writing, reading, being on the water, running, playing with our dogs, Birdie and Beck.

Hi!
I happened to run across this website when looking into Veracruz. I am planning on a trip to that area in a few months and am looking for any information I can find that would help me make my trip as complete as possible. I am a retired teacher thinking about staying permanently in Veracruz, probably close to the city. I hope to find a school that is looking for teachers to teach English.
There are several areas I am interested in, such as the city of Veracruz, Catemaco and Oaxaca, but am open to other ideas.
I would be coming with a pension of 1200 USD and am concerned about whether this is enough to get by. I am single, and believe in a simple life. A simple one bedroom apartment in a safe area is good enough for me.
I am not looking for an area to live that has a lot of foreighners, but to live with the local people there.
I have a rough draft of where I want to check out, but can only afford 10 to possibly 14 days to check the area out.
Do you have any suggestions that would help me out?
John
