The inaugural World Travel & Tourism Council Americas Summit will be held in Riviera Maya, Mexico, 16-18 May 2012. The Americas Summit is hosted by the Mexico Ministry of Tourism and Mexico Tourist Board.
WTTC’s Americas Summit will be the first to unite Travel & Tourism leaders from across the whole region, bringing together top representatives from the public and private sectors, NGOs and the media in a unique networking and discussion forum. This Summit will attract an audience of private and public sector tourism leaders from across the Americas, including: Central America, The Caribbean, South America and North America.
Travel & Tourism plays a very important role in economies across the Americas. Regionally, the industry generates US$250 billion in exports, contributes 9% of GDP and supports 1 in 10 jobs.
The agenda of the Americas Summit will be “Travel & Tourism: Generating jobs now and in the future”. Speakers will include CEOs from regional and global hotel companies, airlines, tour operators and online travel agencies; regional and G20 Ministers of Tourism; high level representatives from the NGO sector and opinion formers from academia and the media. Presentations of best practice from inside and outside the region will be combined with lively debates around future trends and current policies.
In 2012, Mexico will become the focus of world attention as it hosts the meeting of G20 country leaders in June 2012, and The WTTC Americas Summit is timed to bring the debate about the economic and social contributions of Travel & Tourism to the widest possible audience of world leaders, the media and public opinion.
