Irapuato's Historic Center

Famous for the delicious strawberries grown there, Irapuato is located in the foothills of the Arandas Mountain in the state of Guanajuato. It is the state’s second largest city after Leon. Before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores in the 16th century, the Chichimeca tribe settled in what is now Irapuato between 1200 and 1250 AD.

Agriculture is Irapuato’s main economic activity, producing most of the countries’ strawberries, broccoli, carrots and avocados, amongs the many fruits and vegetables grown in its fertile soil.

With less than half a million inhabitants, Irapuato is a small city by Mexican standards; most attractions are close together and easily accessible, including the Irapuato Cathedral, the Miguel Hidalgo Square, and the Cristo Rey Monument.

Inforum Irapuato is the city’s largest meeting space with 732,710 square feet of open-air event spaces, as well as 107,639 square feet of roofed space, divided into two pavilions. Inforum Irapuato can hold up to 9,000 people at a time for all kinds of events, from banquets and congresses, to fairs and sporting events.

Irapuato has 25 comfortable hotels, such as the Holiday Inn Irapuato with 108 guestrooms and suites, as well as 11,000 square feet of meeting spaces in 6 rooms. The Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites has 101 guestrooms and suites, and 3,000 square feet of meeting room space in 5 rooms.

Just an hour away from Irapuato is Guanajuato International Airport (BJX) with direct flights to Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Montreal and Mexico City.
