Leon, named 2011 Emerging International Destination by the Mexican Tourism Board, is proving itself to be an events powerhouse.

The Leon Convention Bureau reports that in 2011 it organized 93 events, up 55% from 60 in 2010. For 2012 the Leon CVB projects another impressive year of growth, with 110 confirmed national and international events, a forecast increase of 13% over 2011.

Leon is a modern business city located in the heart of Mexico. Its direct flights include Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas and Houston, among other international destinations, and the city is easily accessible from Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey through a safe and modern network of highways. Leon's convention center Poliforum Leon, a 484,000-square-foot convention and expo facility, is one of Mexico's leading event venues.
Leon is making its mark on the international events scene. In 2010 it hosted the World Youth Forum, which attracted 25,000 young people from 112 countries. This year it will be the site of the International Debate Education Association (IDEA) Youth Forum, and its signature festivals, the World Rally Championships (WRC) auto race, and the Leon Hot Air Balloon Festival (the second largest such event in the world) attract more visitors each year.

Leon is also a leader in Mexico's meetings tourism industry: In 2012 it will host Mexico's National Meetings Tourism Congress, and in 2013 MPI Mexico's national conference will be in Leon.

Leon is the first destination in Mexico to train its CVB, convention center and meetings hotels on the Cvent system, and its meetings industry is ready to respond to your RFP.Send the Leon CVB an RFP today and start planning your Leon event!
